Welcome to Jadavpur Viveknagar Nature Lovers' Association

An overview of our organisation

In 1989 a group of individuals thought it necessary to join hands and form a non-government, non-profit, voluntary organisation. It was a base where they could pool there resources and try to stem the largescale degradation of our environment with there limited means. Jadavpur Viveknagar Nature Lovers' Association came into being and made a humble begining with the vow to "Conserve Nature - Stop Pollution - Save Mankind". The organisation was officially registered as a society in 1995.

In 1998 the First Annual Exhihition on Nature and Wildlife Photography made its debut. It was a modest effort, but within the bounds of its limitations it was a laudable exercise. The exhibition gradually grew in stature and popularity and can undoubtably claim to be the biggest and the best exposition of its kind in this region. The 9th Exhibition held in July 2006 had more than 150 photographs. These were contributed by 70 photographers.

Since 1996 the organisation has been publishing a quarterly magazine in Bengali titled "Sabuj Barta". The contents are related to nature and ecology. The articles are as diverse as they are informative.

With the objective of enlightening the young minds, JAVINLA made a foray into the urban and rural schools with slide-shows and lectures. In the present climate of commercialisation and consumerism, impressionable minds of the school children are growing apathetic towards the natural world in which we live. The aim is to try and reverse this trend and make them more aware of nature and its diversity. The National Environment Awareness Campaign is another platform where JAVINLA has participated successfully.
